We are pleased to announce we can now offer debit card car hire from Juan Santamaria Airport! Juan Santamaria Airport serves the Costa Rican capital of San Jose, the country’s main financial and cultural centre. San Jose was originally founded in 1736, and unlike the other Spanish planned cities, was mainly in an attempt to congregate the varied settlements and and inhabitants of the Aserri Valley. St Joseph was chosen at the patron saint of the original chapel, which is where the city’s name of San Jose was eventually derived from. Today San Jose is a bustling modern megacity, and is considered one of the safest and cleanest cities in Central America, all contributing greatly to its a status as a top tourist destination.
San Jose is a city like no other, blending Victorian era European style architecture and modern high rise skyscrapers to create a city with its own unique eclectic style. A great example of this is in the city’s many impressive museums to explore, such as the National Museum of Costa Rica, with it’s beautiful butterfly garden and many exhibits showcasing the colonisation of Costa Rica, and the Museum of Pre-Columbian Gold, examining the intricate craftsmanship of the indigenous peoples of the area. San Jose also serves as a gateway for ecotourists exploring the Costa Rican wilderness, with many tours available to see magnificent sights such as the Poas Volcano, La Paz Waterfall Gardens and the Manuel Antonio National Park.
With so many sights to see, hiring a car in Costa Rica is almost mandatory! Thankfully with car hire desks straight in terminal, collecting your car couldn’t be any easier!
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
All standard Visa / MasterCard debit cards are accepted, but they must be linked to the driver’s bank account with the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.

There would be a deposit yes, depending on the size of vehicle.
It depends on the supplier, but it’s either just debited and refunded or held as a pending transaction temporarily.
You can rent any standard models from the mini size to large 9-seat passenger vans. We just can’t rent out premium cars is all.
No extra costs at all, you are just limited to specific suppliers.
Certainly, we can hire to anyone over the age of 23.
Nope, though of course you can add it on if you choose to.
