Car hire with a debit card is now available from Baku Airport! Baku is the capital and primate city of Azerbaijan, and is actually the lowest lying capital in the world, being 28m below sea level. Unrecognisable from its Soviet days, Baku has been in a period of exponential growth and development in the past two decades, becoming a modern metropolis with over 25% of the Azerbaijani population living there. This is also evident in the number of international events it’s hosted, including the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the UEFA Europa League finals, and the Eurovision Song Contest just in the past ten years alone!
Baku has something for everyone, with it’s unusual juxtapositions of ancient old town buildings next to towering modern skyscrapers. The old city is definitely a must see, an ancient walled city in the historical centre dating back to at least the 12th century. It has sights such as the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, a preserved palace turned museum that served the Shirvanshah royal dynasty, and the Maiden Tower, a mysterious round tower that’s the root of many local mysteries. All this is just a stones throw from the imposing Flame Towers, the trio of modern glass skyscrapers pictured above that are actually hotels you can stay in! The Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center is always worth a mention too, an architectural marvel that houses many exhibitions on the history and culture of the city.
Baku Airport is based just northeast of the city, and sees over 4 million passengers each year! With car hire desks directly in terminal, collecting your car couldn’t be any easier.
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, as long as they are linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.
