Recently we found out about a new technology available for car rental companies, which can monitor your car and can end the disputes over the liability in case of accidents.
When hiring a car the clients are liable for the damage produced even when the car is actually parked.
In case of any damages to the car rental, you can find yourself responsible for paying sometimes huge bills even for damages are you not responsible for.
As there is no way to prove that you’re not responsible for the damages, you’ll have to take responsibility for it most of the time.
There are many solutions offered by the car rental companies in order to reduce your liability, but usually these incur extra charges and the total price for a car hire can even double sometimes.
In the near future, a new cheap solution may be implemented by the car rental companies and could be the end of disputes over liability when cars are damaged.
The new technology is brought in the market by Cambridge Consultants, a “world-class supplier of innovative product development engineering and technology consulting”.
The new technology is called DropTag Drive and is a smart sensor which will detect the vehicle acceleration and impacts during the period it is hired.
The DropTag Drive is based on the Drop Tag technology used to track if parcels were damaged during transit worldwide.
The DropTag Drive will be stocked on to the car windscreen and uses Bluetooth Smart technology to connect to any smart phone.
If acquired in large quantities, the cost for the DropTag Drive can be as low as £1/month and can be used for more than a year.
The DropTag Drive will be on 24/7 and due to its Bluetooth technology can transmit information to both the driver and the rental company in case of an accident. It can detect collision even at 2mph like when the vehicles is parked.
This way the driver will not be held liable for the damages produces when he wasn’t driving the car.
Another advantage of the DropTag Drive is when no accident is detected and the car can be returned “hassle free” to the supplier.
Now that we have the technology it remains only to see when it will be implemented by the car rental companies.
