Car Hire with a debit card is now available at Clermont-Ferrand Airport! Clermont Ferrand is a larger city in central France and is most famous for it’s surrounding chain of volcanoes, the Chaîne des Puys, described as an “exceptional illustration of plate tectonics” when it was made a World Heritage Site in 2018. Clermont Ferrand is also one of the oldest cities in France, with the area originally inhabited by a Gallic tribe, until the Romans conquered and named it Augustonemetum. Thankfully that mouthful didn’t last too long though, as it was renamed Clairmont in the 9th century, and then joined with the satellite city of Montferrand in 1630 to finally become Clermont-Ferrand.
Obviously, the main attraction in Clermont Ferrand is the Chaîne des Puys themselves! The most famous and tallest volcano is the Puy de Dôme, standing 4800ft tall and was created by an eruption just 10000 years ago, making it one of the youngest volcanoes too. It offers breathtaking views of the surrounding volcanoes as well as the city itself, with a visitor centre and restaurants/shops at the top. There’s now a train that can take you to the peak, but it’s also a fun hike if you’re up for it! Also worth a mention is the Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral, which is unique in its design in that was made entirely from the black lava stone of the area, and looks almost like a silhouette from a distance.
Clermont-Ferrand Airport is located just 4 miles east of the city, and sees over 400,000 passengers every year. With the car hire desks in terminal there directly, it’s as convenient as possible to collect from the airport.
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.
