Car Hire Graz Airport with a Debit Card
Car hire with a debit card is now available from Graz Airport! Graz is the second largest city in Austria (behind Vienna of course!) and straddles the Mur River near the southern border with Slovenia. The city has existed there in some form since the Middle Ages, and was the home of the royal Hapsburg family for much of their history, until the capital was moved to Vienna. Because of it’s unique position near the border, Graz has a mix of cultures from Austria, Italy and Slovenia, which is very visible in the architecture of it’s famously preserved Altstadt (old town). These days though the city is known more as a university and college city, having four of each and housing around 60,000 students at any time.
Graz is a much quieter, more picturesque city compared to Vienna, perfect for those wanting a quiet getaway! Touring around the Aldstadt is a great way to spend a weekend, with a bunch of historic buildings and museums to see. The most famous of them being the Schlossberg – a hilltop fortress in the city centre that was originally built in the mid 16th century. Whilst much of the fortress itself was destroyed by Napoleonic forces, the area has now been turned into a public park affording breath-taking views. Thankfully the iconic clock tower (the Uhrturm) survived the assault and has since become a symbol for the city itself. Other popular places include the Eggenberg Palace Museum, and the Island in the Mur, an artifical floating island in the river with a cozy cafe!
Graz Airport is located just 6 miles south of the centre, and sees around a million passengers each year. With car hire desks in terminal at the airport and in the city centre, collecting your car couldn’t be more convenient.
