Winnipeg Airport Car Hire with a Debit Card

Winnipeg is the capital of the Canadian province of Manitoba, the easternmost Prairie Province, which is how it gets its nickname of the “Gateway to the West”. It’s named after the nearby Lake Winnipeg, which is derived from the native Cree word “winipīhk” – meaning “muddy water”. With it being centred right on the confluence of the Assiniboine and Red rivers, the area has been inhabited by First Nation Peoples for thousands of years. The city itself developed from the original British Red River Colony in 1812, and started to explode in population once the Canadian Pacific Railway reached it in 1881.
One of the most popular places to visit in Winnipeg is know as the “The Forks“, a National Historic Site where the two rivers meet. This area is home to over 6000 years of history, with numerous archaeological digs conducted proving evidence of many different aboriginal tribes. There’s a lot to do here, with a central park, multiple guided tours, the Assiniboine Riverwalk, and the newer Esplanade Riel cable bridge that connects it, pictured in the image above. In the winter months there’s also a bunch of skating rinks, a snowboard and a toboggan run erected in the area too! Other popular attractions in Winnipeg include the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, the Royal Aviation Museum and the Assiniboine Park Zoo.
Winnipeg Airport’s location makes it the main airport for a huge area, due to how far Winnipeg is from the other major cities in Canada. With car hire desks straight in terminal we can get you on your way as soon as you land!
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.
Please note for Canada you will need to be flying in and out, and have proof of return flights when collecting.
