Car hire at St John’s Airport with a debit card is now available! St John’s is the capital of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada‘s most easterly province, and sits right on it’s easternmost peninsula. Known as North America’s oldest city (though not without contentions!), St John’s has existed in some form or another since the early 1500’s – originally as just a small fishing settlement. The city has seen a very rich history since then, in part due to it’s closeness to the old world, being involved in multiple colonial wars across the centuries.
A great place for a quiet getaway, St John’s has that perfect mixture of coastal small town charm yet all the attractions and amenities of a large city. One of it’s most popular sights is Signal Hill, a huge hill that overlooks the city, providing some magnificent views. Built upon it’s peak is the famous Cabot Tower, a Gothic tower built to to celebrate Queen Victoria’s jubilee, which has since become one of the most famous symbols of the city. St John’s is also a great destination for nature lovers, with miles of hiking trails within easy reach and home to some truly breath-taking sights.
St John’s Airport is only 4 miles out of the city proper, making it a perfect place to collect your car from. With the car hire desks in terminal directly you can be off on your way straight after landing!
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.
A small deposit hold is then placed on your debit card on arrival, which is released back when you return. Please note for Canada you will need to be flying in and out, and have proof of return flights when collecting.
