We are pleased to announce that we can now offer car hire with a debit card from Newcastle Williamtown Airport in Australia – not to be confused with the UK airport of the same name! Like most major Australian cities, Newcastle also started out as a penal colony, discovered accidentally by a naval officer who was on the search for escaped convicts. It was shortly after this that the area was discovered to be abundant in coal, leading it to becoming the world’s largest coal exporting harbour, and causing the city to rapidly industrialise and expand. Whilst the coal industry does still play a large part in the city’s economy, it’s certainly diversified in recent years with tourism rapidly increasing.
Newcastle is a paradise for beach lovers, with many beachside attractions and coastal walking trails. One of the most popular places to visit during the summer is the Merewether Ocean Baths, two huge ocean baths built into the sand, perfect for cooling off. From there you can take the Newcastle ANZAC Memorial Walk, an elevated cliffside walkway that offers stunning views of the beaches and city below, built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli in WW1. Alternatively there’s also the much longer and engaging walk of Bather’s Way, which culminates at the iconic lighthouse at Nobby’s Point.
Newcastle Williamtown Airport is based just 10 miles north of the city in the smaller town of Port Stephens. With car hire desks in terminal, collecting your car couldn’t be more convenient.
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.
