Debit Card Car Hire from Santorini Airport is now available! Santorini, officially known as Thera, is the largest island in the Cyclades archipelago, a group of Greek islands in the Mediterranean. The island has an very old history, with it being home to a Minoan settlement known as Akrotiri from 3000 – 2000 BC, predating even the ancient Greeks. This changed though due to an event known as the Minoan eruption, one of the most devastating volcanic eruptions in human history, which wiped out the local population completely with consequences as far reaching as Egypt and even China. This led to the island being abandoned for hundreds of year, until it was resettled by the Phoenicians and later Greeks.
With its pastel coloured cliffside buildings, deep blue waters and Mediterranean climate, Santorini is perfect for a romantic getaway! Oia is a tourist favourite, with it’s clean white blue-domed buildings built into the steep slope of the caldera – it’s quite the sight at sunset as you can see pictured above. That’s not to mention its famous beaches either, such as the relaxing Perissa Black Sand Beach and the bustling shop lined Kamari Beach. It has a famous built in hiking spot too, around the rim of the caldera that spans the island, giving it it’s unique crescent shape. And of course there’s the ancient site at Akrotiri open for visitors, extremely well preserved thanks to the eruption, in a similar fashion to Pompeii.
Santorini Airport is quite far from the major towns, making car rental a must. With desks in terminal though, collecting your car couldn’t be easier!
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.
