Ivalo Airport Car Hire with a Debit Card
We are pleased to announce that car hire with a debit card at Ivalo Airport is now available! Ivalo is a small village on the Ivalo River in Lapland, though the airport of course serves the wider area of Northern Lapland. The homeland of the Sami people, and rumoured to be the original home of Father Christmas, Lapland is the largest, northernmost region of Finland and is a true winter wonderland! Being part of the Arctic Circle, you can experience natural phenomena such as the “midnight sun” and “polar nights” here, where the sunlight shines all 24 hours during the summer and the nights last all day long during the winter. Not to mention it’s a great place to chase the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis!
Ivalo is a great destination for those interested in winter sports of course! Just 30km south of the airport you can find the popular resort of Saariselkä, the northernmost ski resort in the country. Though smaller than some of the competition, it still offers plenty of options for cross country and downhill skiing, and is a great place for beginners with breathtaking scenery to boot. It’s not just for skiing too, it also has a tropical spa and wellness centre, and you can even stay at the nearby glass igloo hotels, built for those hoping to see the Northern Lights! Other nearby activities include reindeer / husky sledge riding, canoeing, mountain biking and even panning for gold.
With everything so far apart, a car is a must have for seeing Lapland, especially in wintry conditions. With desks in terminal, collecting your car couldn’t be any easier!
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.

Not at all, we can arrange rentals there with just a low 100 EUR deposit.
It depends on the supplier, but it’s either just debited and refunded or held as a pending transaction temporarily.
You can rent any standard models from the mini size to large 9-seat passenger vans. We just can’t rent our premium cars is all.
Nope, no extra costs, just you may be limited to certain suppliers is all.
Yes, we can rent to any drivers over 21, as long as you’ve held a licence for more than a year.
Yes, all cars come equipped with winter tyres during the winter months, with options to add on snow chains too.
Yes, you can take it into the other Nordic countries – Sweden, Norway and Denmark. Just make sure you inform us when booking.
