Car hire with a debit card is now available at Chambery Airport! Chambery is a small alpine city nestled right at the foot of the French Alps, between the Bauges and Chartreuse mountain ranges. The city is famous for once being the capital of Savoy, a royal dynasty that would expand from a small alpine county to rule over both the Kingdom of Sicily and Sardinia, and even the Kingdom of Italy for a time after their push for Italian unification. It was actually the Italian unification that saw the secession of Chambery to France! Chambery today though serves as a very important crossroads for both highway and rail traffic between France, Switzerland and Italy, as well as a popular tourist destination for those visiting the Alps.
As a tourist destination, Chambery of course provides a great starting off point for a holiday to the Alps, a premiere location for world class skiing as well as other winter activities, such as snowboarding, sledging and mountaineering / hiking. If you’re just looking for a cozy getaway in a historic town with a beautiful alpine backdrop though, you can’t go much wrong with Chambery! There’s a ton to see, such as the Chateau de Chambery, a striking medieval castle that served as the royal seat for the House of Savoy, and has guided tours available inside. Perhaps it’s most famous landmark too is the Fontaine des Éléphants, a 19th century fountain surrounded by sculptures of four lifesize elephants, built to honour one of the Savoy Count’s feats in India.
Chambery Airport is based just outside the city and sees over 200,000 passengers every year. With desk in terminal and at the TGV station, collecting your couldn’t be any easier!
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.

It depends on the supplier, but it’s either just debited and refunded or held as a pending transaction temporarily.
All standard cars are fine, from mini cars to 9-seat passenger vans. Premium cars are the only restriction when using a debit card.

Yes, we can rent to anyone over the age of 21, as long as you’ve held a licence for over a year.
Not as standard in France, but we do have specific car groups with winter tyres as well as snow chains available to rent.
Yes certainly, you can take the vehicles into most of Europe, just make sure you inform us when booking.
No, zero excess is completely optional, but you can add it on if you want to of course.
