Car Hire with a debit card is now available from Hobart Airport! Hobart is the capital city of the island state Tasmania in Australia, situated on the south coast by the River Derwent with the famous Mount Wellington providing a striking backdrop. The city was originally founded in 1804, stereotypically as a penal colony for convicts, though quickly gained prominence as a mining and agriculture town. Since the early 2000’s though Hobart has experienced an economic rebirth, and become an important centre for tourism in Tasmania! Hobart is also considered an Antarctic gateway city, being the closest home port for both the Australian and French Antarctic programs.
A lot of Hobart’s recent increase in tourism has been credited to the Museum of Old and New Art, or MONA for short. Approachable by ferry up the River Derwent, MONA is an underground labyrinthine collection of ancient and contemporary art, known for its unusual and subversive exhibits. If you’re visiting during the summer it also hosts the famous Mona Foma music festival too. The weekly Salamanca Market is also a huge draw, with over 300 stalls every Saturday offering a huge selection of locally made goods. A lot of Hobart’s museums and attractions also pull from it’s rather unique past as a penal colony, such as the Convict Penitentiary Chapel and the Cascades Female Factory, a historic site detailing the history of female convicts.
Hobart Airport is based in the nearby town of Cambridge, just 11 miles out of Hobart proper. With car hire desks straight in terminal, collecting your vehicle couldn’t be easier!
What Debit Cards do we accept, and how does it work?
We can accept any standard Visa or MasterCard debit cards, they just need to be linked to the driver’s bank account and have the driver’s name on it. We cannot take any prepaid or top-up cards, nor Maestro or V-Pay.
